Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire resides in a quiet area of Montreal Island called West Island. Many people unfamiliar with the word frequently think that it's an island that's to the west of Montreal however, it's a part of the city that's west. West Island is home to all things from the City of Lachine west. Amanda Brugel was born there and her time was not long in the city. Brugel was raised in Courtice close to Oshawa. When she was a child, she wanted to be the next big thing in her career, but a sudden increase in her height made it difficult. In an article published in the Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6 feet one inch. As soon as I outgrew my male counterparts and stopped dancing, I quit. A lot of former dancers go on to act. In the case of Brugel, it was the encouragement of her drama teacher at high school that led her in the direction she needed. A teacher suggested that she audition for an annual school play. The audition was successful and she was chosen as Anne of Green Gables. The show was granted an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to take part in York University's Theater Program which she completed in 2000 with a Bachelor's of Fine Arts. Her career spans 20 years and she has appeared in 60 different productions that have screened on large screens as well as smaller screens. Her most notable role was the one of Rita (pictured below) in the television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian cast member for Season 1 of the show and was only seen occasionally.
